In Blackheath we have Fenners, the most marvellous greengrocers shop run by Lisa and her daughter Nicola. Everyone loves Fenners - yes, because the fruit and veg are always fresh and beautifully displayed, yes because everything tastes delicious and is always perfectly ripe but mainly it's because of Lisa and her family - (her son helps out too and her husband is off to the market at dawn every morning). Lisa is always smiling, always has a friendly welcome for everyone and is always interested in what people are doing. For me, I like that she remembers my name (and my son's name, my husband's name, even the dog's name!) and when she asks how everyone is you really feel she means it. Lisa constantly does those little kind things that make everyone's day better, like now she knows I like making cakes with soft bananas she saves them for me and pops them in my basket and if you're not feeling well she'll recommend drinking hot lemon and honey and you'll find a cheery lemon nestling at the bottom of your bag when you get home. When my Dad was in the last few months of his life she found out he liked green grapes and from that moment on she gave me some every week, never wanting to be paid - just give him my love she said. I did, and he sent his back. A little act of kindness easing the way. Thanks for that Lisa and for all those brilliant smiles.
