This afternoon we head for Gravetye Manor in East Grinstead for a champagne reception (outside in stunning grounds) and dinner (inside in beautiful dinning room). "Utilising the gardens, foraged produce, smokehouse techniques and sourcing the best ingredients from local supplies" is what chef George Blogg promises. (I always worry about foraged, but am aware that I confuse it with an Australian travel story that my husband did where the restaurant served Road-Kill, yes - that's basically anything that had got run over that day...) But back to Gravetye where MD Andrew Thomason was fantastic company over dinner and the food was wonderful (elderflowers being the only thing that was crushed in the foraged department). Both George and the sommelier talked us through the courses with a nice combination of expertise and modesty (very British and perfectly suited to the hotel). The rooms are gorgeous, the gardens a delight and staff fantastic. Do go.
