Today I am giving a motivational talk to a group of high achieving students from Grieg City Academy as part of their preparation for entering the sixth form. They visited Canary Wharf and the Old Bailey before coming into the City. We spend a long time talking about choices and maximising opportunities and I share my belief that one should always ask whenever possible (for anything, whether it's seemingly possible or not). I make them laugh talking about some of the times when that strategy goes wrong as well as hopefully encouraging them with the stories of when it's gone right.
I'm delighted to receive this message afterwards, as having them talk about it means that something hit home.
